Switch it up…

Installment #4 of backtracking my weight loss

When I first met Beth Downey at the Brickhouse Gym (please note the Brickhouse Gym is now closed, I have the new gym information listed below), I thought, no problem. She’s this little, bitty thing–who is quiet and very kind.

I was terrified, walking in to the gym at 245 pounds, making sure I told her so I wouldn’t have to weigh (again) and be embarrassed.

She calmly took my measurements, as I told her my story; she didn’t bat an eye. There was no ‘gasping’ or ‘ how could you’– just patience and understanding.

Boy, was I wrong about her, I still hear her trademark ‘ switch it up’ in my dreams…

Me, dying, can you tell?

Me on the left, I think I'm trying to breathe...

This little powerhouse kicked my ass, had me begging for mercy and still kept it coming. Weights, ropes, tires, bikes, you name it and Beth has you doing something with it—she is relentless. Yet, her class is always full and people love her. If you want to sweat– take on the ‘Gauntlet’ class at the Metro Family Fitness in Mount Clements, MI (new location) it’s well worth it.

More Sweat

More Sweat with my pals at the Brickhouse...

In my first month of doing the ‘Gauntlet, I lost 14 inches! Yes, 14 inches! I also learned I loved to do Circuit Training.

‘Circuit Training is a form of conditioning combining resistance training and high-intensity aerobics. It is designed to be easy to follow and target strength building as well as muscular endurance. An exercise “circuit” is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. When one circuit is complete, one begins the first exercise again for another circuit. Traditionally, the time between exercises in circuit training is short, often with rapid movement to the next exercise.’

But, I started having issues with my knee after about a month. I had surgery back in 84 for my ACL, after an injury in middle school. We tried working around this at the gym, but my knee was really bothering me. I kept hearing talk around the gym of a diet called ‘ The Eat Clean’ diet, others were doing this with great success–I was curious.

This is what we will talk about in Installment 5…

Here’s Holly, me, and Beth. I sure miss the Brickouse crowd, they were the best– they kept me on my toes for sure!!!!

P.S. I have just started my walking again, it’s not circuit training, but it’s a start! 🙂

Wowzers, for a newbie blog-thank you for the nomination!

I can’t believe it! I have been nominated by Helen in recognition for my blog and I feel very blessed because blogging is still very new to me.

So check her out ( the link is below). I seriously  want to crawl through the screen to get to her Good Eats!  I want to thank Helen for being such an inspiration to me––she really has no idea how much I admire her blog and ideas. I am in awe!

First off, I have to thank my husband Michael because he puts up with so much from me! Really!  Secondly, I am just a beginner at blogging, so this nomination is an honor.

I have recently decided  to change  my blog format. I still believe in what started it––Eating Clean, but now I want to expand on that idea and make it more, so I am very excited!  Please bear with me while I get situated.

We all travel different paths to a healthy life,  and  use different ways get there.  I really want to help those with an injury who think they can’t loose weight but they CAN.

So here are 7 things about me you don’t know me…

  1. I am originally from Mississippi.
  2. I love expensive purses––can we say Coach! 🙂
  3. My Mama calls me Petunia.
  4. My favorite flower is a Lilly. (Michael plants one for me every year!)
  5. I met my husband on a poetry forum ( in fact, he proposed to me with a poem in a bottle!)
  6. I have three cats; Snickers, Oreo and Hershey, all adopted from the Humane Society.
  7. I have been best friends with my friend Kat for over 20 years! I miss her  because she lives in Texas and I live in Michigan. 😦

Here are 11 sites that you should check out…

Another re-org my friends, I have figured out some things, please give me a few days. I have to get my site together, I think I finally understand how things should be working! Thank you Helen, I took a looksie at your site a few days ago- and that got me thinking. 🙂  So, I am a bit behind, trying to get things together and work out the kinks-thanks for your patience.

Questions about if you’d like to keep my ‘before’ journey…

Pictures-Mem’ries of the Soul!

Ani, Me, Courtney (Mine), Breah and Erik (his)-our family-Christmas-2012

Courtney, my Sister Lisa, me and my Mama, while I was visiting Austin, Texas -summer 2011.

Hello there!

I wanted to share a few pictures of our family with you. I feel pictures are pieces of our soul that we get to view again and again.

Often times, in the blogging world, we only share a part of ourselves– brief windows into who we really are. Well, here are some pieces of me– some precious moments of my life. I hope you enjoy!

Being Goofy!

Traci, Feb 2012-Go Wings!

Of COURSE, we have the Red Wings, GO WINGS! I adore Hockey! 🙂

Breah's 18th Bday-this is Michael's Daughter Breah ( on the left) and their exchange student Ani from South America.

Michael and I went to watch the Wings practice. It was SO freaking cold I must say. I DID ask him to fix my hair, lol-you can see, he didn't! 🙂

Changes at the WalkerLady House!

Good Morning,

As you can see, I am changing my site around, there are a few reasons for this (thank you Marilyn a fellow blogger who writes often and about such interesting things-you inspire me! 🙂

1.) There are so many things I want to say and I get so intimidated ( trying to recall so far back what I did and didn’t do) and also I have a short shelf life . What does that mean, it means that with my current medical issues ( which I will get into in my next post) I can only be on the computer for a limited time without pushing it. Well, I do anyway. Though I’m now taking medication for pain, it only takes the edge off.

Also, as a side note, I am grammatically challenged. This is not an excuse, or something  of which I’m proud ( my husband taught me something new) ; I’m REALLY working on  this. My husband does TRY to help me, but he’s working on his next book. Check out if you’re  interested. I am just so proud and he’s a damn good writer, so I just wanted to mention it. Either way, you can read some beautiful poetry and stories– which incidentally, is how we met–on a poetry forum. Maybe one day, I will post some of mine.

ANYWAY, back to my comma and semi colon abuse; I am working on it, so please forgive me. I think faster than I can type.

2) So, I am going to have two sections; one for the past, and one for the present. Yes, more work, but then I can write about what is currently going on and still do what I feel is ‘God led’, and help others.

So this is what I am doing; I already have in my head the next few posts, now I just have to get them down on paper.

I’m excited; I think this is going to work out so much better!

PS, tell me what you think…
